I was born in the Midlands of England in 1966. After living in Germany for four years my family settled in the southeast of England, which is where I went to school and more importantly came to faith at St. John’s Church, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. I felt a call to the priesthood from my mid-teens, which led me to study Divinity at the University of Wales and Theology at the University of Edinburgh. I completed my ordination training at Cramner Hall, St. John’s College, University of Durham. I was ordained to the Diaconate in 1992 and the Priesthood in 1993 both in the Diocese of Oxford.

I have had the joy and privilege of being the rector of Christ Church, Morningside since the Fall of 2004. Before that I was the rector of St. James’ Episcopal Church, Portland, Oregon from July 2001. Prior to being called to serve at St. James’, I was the rector of St. Paul’s, Troy, New York in the Diocese of Albany from January 1995, and before that I was a curate at St. Michael’s Church, Tilehurst in England (while I was at St. Michael’s I had the joy of serving during an interregnum following the departure of both the rector and the other curate).

While in the Diocese of Albany I was a member of the Commission on Ministry and the Diocesan Stewardship Commission. I was also a member of the Great Chapter of the Cathedral of All Saints, Albany, and a Canon of the Cathedral. I served as the sub-Dean for the Troy area in the Metropolitan Deanery (a group of seven churches). I was a member and then chair of the planning board for the Province II Stewardship Conference, held each year in the New York State. I was a member and then chair of Canterbury House, an Episcopal residential home for seniors in Troy. I was a member and then chair of the Troy Area Clergy Association and Bethany Center Community Kitchen.

In the Diocese of Oregon I served as a member of The Diocesan Council and as a member of the Diocesan Stewardship Commission. I was appointed by the Bishop as Dean of the Sunset Convocation (a group of twelve churches in the southwest Portland Metropolitan area).

Michele and I have been married for fourteen years. We have a daughter, Pippa who is seven and twin boys, Charlie and Alec, who are two and a half. My passions in ministry include: traditional Anglican liturgy and music, congregational development, small group ministry, the ministry of healing, the discernment and implementation of vision and mission and stewardship. For fun I enjoy reading, hiking, history, gardening, movies, good wine (in moderation!), cooking and friends.

The word rector ("ruler," from the Latin regere) has a number of different meanings, but all of them indicate someone who is in charge of something.

The term and office of a rector are called rectorate
